Tooth decays have become quite common among children due to their poor dental hygiene habits. Severe decay in the teeth can affect the pulp and result in its inflammations, which are known as Pulpitis. Pulpotomy is the method performed if the primary teeth got concerned with Pulpitis. The symptoms of Pulpitis can be very painful as the pulp becomes inflamed. There are two types of Pulpitis, namely reversible and irreversible. The reversible one is very painful when touched and can only be cured by using pain medications. Coming to irreversible Pulpitis, it causes unprovoked toothache, excessive teeth mobility, and soft tissue inflammation, which has not been caused by any periodontal disease.
Diagnosis
The diagnostic process of Pulpitis is quite simple. Your dentist will examine your teeth first and then will ask you for an X-ray. The X-ray will be able to show the extent of decay. Depending on this, the dentist will decide on the restoration process. In case the tooth cannot be repaired, extraction is the only way out. Next, the dentist will have to understand whether the nerves are alive or not. In case it is dead, then the dentist will proceed with root canal treatment instead of Pulpotomy.
Treatment
There are two types of approaches that can help you in treating the condition. The first one will be an indirect pulp cap in case the upper part of the nerve did not get removed. The second treatment approach is Pulpotomy, wherein the pulp chamber got removed above the area where the nerves get extended to the roots of the teeth.
To prevent the Pulpitis from occurring, your children must follow excellent oral care hygiene. You can give your children fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash to prevent bacterial formation inside the mouth.
